Re: GR focus speed

OK,
Used the camera at a colleagues leaving party - very dark pub, followed by an extremely dark night club! Not a single picture was out of focus! Focusing is very quick and the flash is really spot on.
Camera handled beautifully.
OK, bad points - it is noisy. However, its "ggod" noise! That is to say, there are no strange colour blobs, but its uniformly noisy which makes it very easy to clean up. Even at 200ASA there is some noise. So far I've only used it on 200 and 400ASA.
So far, all things considered, and comparing it to other cameras like the LX1, I'm very happy with it and it shall remain in my family of kit!

Re: GR focus speed

I forgot to ask about low light focusing, that was my next question Have you had a chance to determine a preferred noise removal method?

Re: GR focus speed

Edmond,

Took a look at one whilst I was in Jacobs this morning.

Feels great. It would make a good Christmas present for Christine who had, and loved, a GR-1.

Snag is that, wearing reading glasses, I simply could see where it had chosen to focus - and Christine would be in the same boat. Yes, one can add the hot shoe viewfinder, but it makes it less attractive as a handbag camera and one gizmo to lose.

Pity.

Tony

Re: GR focus speed

Just tried using noise-ninja on a couple of iso 1600 samples, the files respond really well, even just using the automated profiling. Enough to put me at ease regarding any noise concerns I may have had.

Re: GR focus speed

John,
I've tried Neat Image which works well. I have yet to get Noise Ninja which I know is better.
At the end of the day, I'm looking at this as a carry around camera, and for the proper DSLRs to do the magic!

Tony,
I hear you! You could always try looking at the Voitlander viewfinders (just make sure they don't block the flash - my Leica one does :-( ).

Yes, I've used one when I had a G3 and the wide angle adaptor. I think that turned off the flash. It would be a shame if it did as I do find those on-camera flashes very good for fill.

Re: GR focus speed

The Voigtlander viewfinder does not block the flash.
