This may be just a rumor but here it is:

Re: Canon - 5D Successor & the 50D

Whether these rumored specs are accurate or not, they at least feel in-line with Canon's model evolution over the last few years. As a current 5D user, I'd have to say the Nikon D700 looks a lot more compelling than the 5D successor described by these rumored specs. Then again, these are just rumors and Canon may have a different tale to tell than these specs suggest.

Re: Canon - 5D Successor & the 50D

50D? The 40 is just a year old and has no real competition so I doubt it.

The 5D2 has been LONG rumoured - not sure why canon has take 3 years to update it. And if this is the update it's weak IMO, ISO wise, compared to recent release from Nikon. Perhaps the OLED LCD has been the hold up? Canon's been working on it for a long time now. Not sure whey faster FPS..perhaps wedding photogs (PJ types) have requested it -many use the 1D3 for this feature so perhaps that is the reason.

I'll believe it when I see it, and kinda hope nothing is coming...that way I won't feel bad if I don't buy it.

Interesting. The 50D doesn't sound like a watershed model either.

Specs notwithstanding, it's the picture quality that reigns supreme. If, somehow, Canon makes the images come out as much better as the 40D over the 30D, then it will be something worth considering. Problem is, the images are already so darned good, how can they make them a lot better?

Re: Canon - 5D Successor & the 50D

Never say never, but these specs are extremely unlikely. The 1Ds Mark III uses two Digic III processors to handle 5 fps @ 21 Mpixel = 105 Mpixel per second. The 1D Mark III is roughly the same, because it also uses two Digic III processors to handle 10 fps @ 10 Mpixel = 100 Mpixel per second.

And now, suddenly, the successor of the 5D will be able to handle up to 8 fps @ 16.7 Mpixel = 133 Mpixel per second with only one Digic III processor?... Yeah, right!

Re: Canon - 5D Successor & the 50D

I've been holding off purchasing a 5D waiting for the successor to it. I was hoping for more than the specs are offering, but it still looks great!

I agree with the above, would be nice for them to put the second Digic III processor in..

Those specs are only somebody's wet dream. Wait till Canon announces the camera if you want to know the real specs.

You are completely missing my point. My point is that those specs are impossible for a camera with one Digic III processor. Like I said, this is just somebody's wet dream.
